Today we talked about the importance of open-ended questions when conducting an interview. For your newspaper assignment today, in an article that you read, you came up with the questions the journalist asked based on the quotes in the article. You took an item out of your pocket, and came up with a list of ten interview questions (open-ended) for that item. That went into your interview section of your notebook. You also interviewed another "journalist" (your muckraker presentation journalists). Your assignment was to come up with a Fremont "spin" for an article based on the information you collected.
Awesome interviews today!! You guys did a great job finding information on your journalists. I hope you have spent some time getting to know them, because you will be them next time for our interviews.
We took AP Quiz #1 in class. In pairs, you picked from a list of journalists and photojournalists and researched them. Wikipedia is not an option as a source, but it can be a starting point. You answered the questions that I had on the board. You can find those here. Come prepared with your research next time. We will be conducting interviews in class, you will be representing your journalist in the interview. You can preview the interview questions here.
We identified the articles in today's paper that wouldn't have been published if the government controlled our press. We talked about the importance of our freedom of the press. We read an article about the Newseum in Washington DC.
